About Us

Stay in the Light is an adventure and business embarked upon by two friends.  It started on a snowy New Year's trip to Victoria, BC amidst a family dinner, some polite political banter, and then an all lets loose backyard dance party.  It was a time when we tried to let go of the year behind, and make some space for something new in what lay ahead.  

Over the course of the trip, on ferries, in taxis, on buses, the family van, and on the chairlift, we talked about had happened in the last year, the mistakes we had made, the relationships broken, what was fulfilling in our lives, and what was missing.  We talked about what we'd been up to that was fun, shared the kind of stories, minute details, and hysterical laughing that only comes out when long amounts of time and distance are covered, when you have the chance to let your guard down and just be in that moment with your homie.  We cracked each other up.

And in those conversations and music listening sessions, we learned that we both dug headbands, that D's brother had been collecting headbands forever, and that we both were yearning for more creativity in our lives.  We vowed to support each other in the year ahead to live the lives we really wanted to be living, to support each other in being our whole selves, and share the journey with each other, the small victories, the random encounters, whatever inspired us along the way.  So that's how it started, as a creative container to share what we were into...whatever we were we reading, the pictures we were taking, the songs we were rocking.  We set the intention to see what could happen if we tried to be more ourselves and have to courage to go for what we really wanted.  

A few months in, we were looking for headbands, and couldn't find what we were picturing in our minds.  One of us threw it out there, "we should start a headband company."  At first, we imagined we would curate our favorite headbands from around the world, but again, we couldn't find just what we wanted, so we started to craft them ourselves.  What you will find on our site today, is what we have come up with and the work of those who have taught us, inspired by all the things we love...geometry, birds, graffiti, meadows, skateboarding, urban adventure, bookstores, white walls, wood floors, ferns, yurts, beats, green juice, and the sense of possibility.

Stay in the Light has been an experiment in following the clues.

It has taught us the courage to believe in ourselves, to take responsibility for our own feelings, and to have a really good time.
